I swear this blog dies more frequently than..... *asks Sean to complete sentence*.......an Apple [computer]  crashes.

At least the sentence makes sense.

So the holidays have been a bore so far and I have not been going out much. Which is a shame, because I believe it was one of the many (5) things I planned on doing these hoidays. *Yawn*.

Hey I think I just found a [v.v.v. late] New Years resolution. Not to be a sleepwalker.

http://embraceliving.net/blog/2009/01/are-you-sleepwalking-your-life-away/

Click on link.

But then again it could be one of those things which will always make you sound like you have that problem/disease. Ads are so damn convincing nowadays, I can't look at a set of T.V. commercials without thinking, "Hmm, I think I might get that checked". Actually, I can. But that thought still crosses my mind sometimes.

So I have this "holiday project" going on which includes me making my computer run faster. Sure, I could just buy new parts, but where's the fun in that?

[Begin computing terms/boring things]

My current specs for my computer are:

AMD Athlonx2 Dual Core 4600+ (2.4Ghz)
MSI K9N4 Motherboard
1.5Gb RAM (533Mhz)
ECS Elitegroup 8600GT (GDDR3 256Mb)
120Gb Harddrive [But I'm connected to a 1.5Tb server]
330W Power Supply Unit.

...Yeah, yeah - I know it's not brilliant, but I bet it's better than any computer you had 2 years ago.

Anywho, what I plan on doing is making my CPU run a little bit faster (hopefully 2.5Ghz) and that includes increasing the voltage to the CPU. This causes it to heat up more which might end up frying it.

Now, in order to keep the CPU cool, I have to provide adequate cooling. I would love liquid cooling but it's not going to happen with my budget. So I'll stick to adding more and more fans into my computer. But alas, there's a problem with that. In order to power those fans, I need a more powerful power supply unit. As it is, I'm one fan away from using up all the power that my PSU (power supply unit) can handle.

Now suppose I upgraded to a 500w PSU (Thermaltake Purepower 500w: $59.99 from Newegg.com) I'm faced with another problem. My turtle SPEED (not capacity) RAM.

I'm happy with 1.5Gb RAM: it does everything I want. But 533Mhz isn't going to cut it when it comes to overclocking. My motherboard supports a max of 4gb DDR2. RAM. So I figured 3gb would be a nice figure for me because I already have a 1Gb stick running at 800mhz while my other stick is 512Mb running at 533Mhz.

The 512Mb stick is the problem (because it slows down the other stick) so I'll get rid of that and I think I might buy a nice shiny Kingston 2gb (800Mhz) stick from MSY for $29.

So all up it will cost me $90 (exc. fans).

But it will be saving me money if I'm apble to increase the speed of my CPU. So it's worth it.

But if I screw over (i.e. Burn out my CPU due to excess heat), I'll need a new computer and *looks in wallet* I can't afford that.

So I don't think I'm going to actually be able to finish this.

[End computing terms/ boring things].

I'm off to do something which will kill time. Wait, that's sleepwalking my life away.

Correction.

I'm off to do something productive.

Go me.
